  AWARDS

KRISTEN SWILLEY

Kristen Swilley joined 13 WMAZ, the CBS affiliate in Macon, Ga. in October of 2013.

She graduated from Florida A&M University, where she was involved in the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication's student media outlets throughout her college career.

This award-winning journalist loves the spontaneity of the industry and finds joy in the possibility her office might be a courtroom in Florida one day and a stadium in South Africa the next.

Kristen is the 2013 recipient of the "Courtney Simms Vision Award" for reporting given to students who excel in their respective fields, and the "Best Television Hard News Reporter" in the Southeast Journalism Conference.

She recently served as the weather anchor for FAMU TV20's "Live at 5" and as a reporting intern at WTXL ABC 27.

Kristen’s multimedia work displays her core values of reporting – accuracy, innovation and diversity.

Kristen has covered the 2010 FIFA World Cup, interviewed ex-mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick, and delved into the "culture" behind the hazing death of FAMU drum major Robert Champion.

Though her transcript says she was a broadcast journalism student, she gained a lot of print experience.

She became news editor of the campus paper, The Famuan and editor in chief of Journey magazine, which won three first place awards for best college magazine under her leadership, including an SPJ "Mark of Excellence" Award. She also has two awards for her multimedia work.

Whether she's in the newsroom crunching for her next show or out on assignment for the people of Central Georgia, Kristen is constantly looking for chances to hone her craft.
